Kuthiny Baty (a pumice-rock formation) is a monument of nature. If the name is translated literally, it means «Boats of God Kuth». Kuth is the main god of Itelmen, indigenous people of the peninsula. As the legend goes, he was the one who created Kamchatka. The tale further tells that Kuth, before his departure, lived in this area. One day, after fishing, he put his boats to dry, flew away and forgot about them. Kuhtiny Baty formations are located on the territory of South Kamchatka Federal Sanctuary, eight kilometers (5 miles) from the Kurile Lake. When looking at these fancy denudations of pumice rocks, one can’t escape the thought about actual truthfulness of the legend.
