On 27 November 2012 the most powerful eruption, which was expected to happen in 200 years, started on the slopes of Tolbachik Range. Neither volcanologists nor ordinary people expected such an event so soon. Not much of time had passed after the last eruptions of 1975-76, which were catastrophic largest basaltic eruptions of the twentieth century.
And again Plosky Tolbachik managed to amaze everyone with its might and scale of the eruption. Six new scoria cones and several 30 kilometer (19 miles) long lava flows forever changed the landscape of these places. Legendary Lunar Rover Base and tourist campsite of Klyuchevskoy Park were destroyed in the first days of that eruption.
All the beauty of this event one could see through September 2013. Of course, the best shots of the eruption were made during the first winter months. You can see them here.
